Recom Explorer 4 Multipoint Sampling Gas Analyzer

Recom Explorer 4 Multipoint Sampling Gas Analyzer

The Explorer 4 Multipoint Sampling Gas Analyzer is composed of several key components. These components are the control panel, sampling panel, alarm repeater, and the sintered filters and gas-protected bulkhead passage. The control panel is a marine plastic panel designed to be installed in the Cargo Control Room. It features indicators for gas concentration, specifically for LEL and H2S or other gases. The panel includes push buttons for sequence control, as well as optic and acoustic alarms. Additionally, it houses auxiliary/alarm control circuits and a sequencer PLC. The control panel allows for the visualization of gas concentration, manual sequence setting, alarm set point selection, line purging, and the ability to halt the sequence in the presence of water or high gas content.

Next, the sampling panel is a gas-tight metal panel that is installed in a safe area near the pipes’ bulkhead passage. It contains various important elements, including an LEL sensor with a flow regulator, an H2S sensor with a flow regulator, a sensor for water detection in the lines, sampling solenoid valves, and a vacuum pump with a sensor for detecting excessively low vacuum. The sampling panel also includes a self-detecting point for gas content. If the gas content exceeds 10% LEL inside the panel, the system will automatically trigger an alarm and shut down. The alarm repeater is a non-acknowledgeable optic and acoustic alarm repeater that is intended to be installed on the bridge deck. Its purpose is to provide clear and audible alarms in response to detected gas levels or other relevant warnings.

The sintered filters and gas-protected bulkhead passage consist of multiple components. These include 16 flame arrestors, each equipped with a sintered filter for explosion-proof protection (one for each line). Additionally, there are 16 shut-off valves and 16 three-way valves. The system also features a gas-protected bulkhead passage approved type.

The LEL Sensor integrated into the Explorer 4 Multipoint gas detection system is a crucial component for monitoring and detecting flammable gases. Operating on a catalytic oxidation principle, it ensures accurate and reliable measurements of gas levels. With a detection range of 0 to 100% LEL (Lower Explosive Limit), the sensor is capable of identifying potentially hazardous gas concentrations. Furthermore, the LEL Sensor boasts excellent sensibility at 1%, allowing it to detect even low levels of flammable gases. It demonstrates remarkable linearity at 100%, ensuring precise and consistent output readings. The sensor provides output signals in the form of 4-20 mA or RS485 MODBUS RTU, enabling seamless integration into existing monitoring systems. It can be conveniently powered by either 12 Vcc or 24 Vcc, offering flexibility for various power supply setups.

Designed to withstand demanding environments, the LEL Sensor operates within a wide temperature range of -20°C to +55°C. It holds an IP rating of IP 6X, indicating exceptional protection against dust and water ingress. This robust construction ensures its reliability and durability even in harsh marine conditions. The LEL Sensor features a fast response time (T90) of less than 25 seconds, allowing for quick detection and response to gas concentration changes. The sensor utilizes a 3-wire wiring type, simplifying the installation process. Additionally, it is equipped with an internal 7-segment, 4-digit LCD display, providing clear and easy-to-read gas concentration information.

With relevant certifications and approvals such as ISSeP04ATEX036, DNV (Det Norske Veritas) n° A8575, and R.I.Na (Registro Navale Italiano), the LEL Sensor meets stringent industry standards for safety and performance. These certifications further affirm its reliability and suitability for marine applications, where precise gas detection is of utmost importance. Similarly, the H2S Sensor used in the Explorer 4 Multipoint system is a critical component for monitoring hydrogen sulfide gas levels. Utilizing an electrochemical principle, this sensor ensures accurate and precise detection of H2S gas.

Operating within a range of 0 to 200 ppm, with a maximum capacity of 1000 ppm, the H2S Sensor covers a wide spectrum of hydrogen sulfide concentration levels. It offers a resolution of 0.25 ppm, enabling the detection of even minor fluctuations in H2S levels. The sensor exhibits outstanding linearity, providing reliable and consistent output readings. Like the LEL Sensor, the H2S Sensor provides output signals in the form of 4-20 mA or RS485 MODBUS RTU, facilitating seamless integration into monitoring systems. It requires a power supply of 18 to 30 Vdc, ensuring compatibility with various power sources commonly found in marine applications.

Operating in a temperature range from -40°C to +50°C, the H2S Sensor demonstrates its ability to withstand extreme temperature conditions. It holds the same high IP rating of IP 6X, guaranteeing protection against dust and water ingress, even in challenging marine environments. With a rapid response time of less than 15 seconds, the H2S Sensor enables swift detection and response to changes in hydrogen sulfide gas levels. It utilizes a 2-wire wiring type, simplifying the installation process and reducing wiring complexity.

Equipped with an internal 7-segment, 4-digit LCD display, the H2S Sensor provides clear and concise gas concentration information for easy monitoring and analysis. Certified according to ISSeP04ATEX036, DNV (Det Norske Veritas) n° A8575, and R.I.Na (Registro Navale Italiano) standards, the H2S Sensor meets stringent industry regulations, ensuring its reliability and compliance with safety requirements in marine applications.
